THE NEED: Specialty hospitals and medical advancements can be of no use unless emergency service reach people on time. More than 6,60,000 deaths occur every year in India alone as a result of cardiac arrest. The survival rate is less than 1% as emergency medical services do not reach on time and hence, this reason alone accounts for greater than 50% of cardio related deaths in India.
The risk of cardiac death in adults is estimated to be 1 per 1,000 adults of 35 years of age and above per year. About 75-80% of all out-of-hospital cardiac arrests happen at home. Hence, being trained to perform CPR & First Aid can make a difference between life and death for a victim as the life you save is likely to be your loved one: a child, a spouse, a parent or a friend.
HOW CARDIO-PULMONARY RESUSCITATION (CPR) CAN SAVE LIVES
The heart stops beating or the lungs stop functioning due to non-availability of oxygen to the brain. The brain can survive only 6 minutes without oxygen. Beyond this, the cells of the brain start dying. The destruction of these cells is an irreversible process and brain death occurs when a critical number of cells die. If a victim has to survive, it is very important to ensure that the oxygen supply to the brain is restored within 4-6 minutes. Unfortunately, in today’s situations, it is difficult to obtain medical care within this short span of time. This is where CPR comes into picture.
The common medical emergencies that require CPR are:
Heart Attack, Drowning, Choking, Electrocution, Poisoning, Road Traffic Accidents. The sooner CPR is administered, greater are the chances of survival of the victim.
WHAT WE DO: Nightingales Lifesaving Services (NLS) was started with the objective of increasing awareness about Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and creating a community of trained and confident lifesavers who can save precious lives during emergencies.
PROGRAM OFFERS:
> 3.5 hours of training in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
> 4 hours of training in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
> 3.5 hours of training in First Aid
> 1 hour of training in Intravenous (IV) and Intramuscular (IM) for Dental students
Please Note: Nightingales Lifesaving Services Training is conducted through the Nightingale Empowerment Foundation
