Now, Elders' Helpline to run 24/7

Bengaluru: Beginning Wednesday, the city's Elders' Helpline (1090) will be operational round the clock.

The decision was prompted by the increasing number of calls and requests from senior citizens to keep the helpline operational 24/7. Sixty-two percent of complaints registered on the helpline between April 2016 and March 2017 were related to family members abusing or cheating the victims.

The helpline, which is into its 15th year of operation, is a joint project of city police and Nightingales Medical Trust. Functional since 2002, it would till now operate between 8am and 8pm.
