How to Make Sure City is Elder-friendly: 'Have CSR Initiatives for Elderly'

S Premkumar Raja, co-founder, Nightingales Medical Trust, whose trust runs the Elders Helpline along with city police, says: "CSR initiatives for the elderly can play a major role in empowering the elderly to keep pace with the changing environment."

STEPS: 1. Awareness about elder abuse is essential. People should contact the Elders Helpline (toll-free 1090) to report any case of abuse, abandonment, distress or harassment. 2. Publicise Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007. 3. Help desks for the elderly, specially trained staff, wheelchair accessibility and well-ventilated rooms can make hospitals and public spaces senior-friendly.
