Research Head – Dr. Ratnavalli Ellajosyula
To develop effective strategies that can be generalised and which could be used in the management of patients with Dementia, research is needed. Sadly, Dementia continues to remain an area of low research priority in India. Only good quality research can provide proper guidance to service development with a need to develop inexpensive, effective interventions with a potential to scale up in the community.
The Nightingales Centre for Ageing and Alzheimer’s is pitched ideally to work on research in the field of dementia care. The centre and the projects attached to it can generate the data required for epidemiological studies, effectiveness of non pharmacological measures, understanding modifiable risk factors and the role of indigenous remedies.
In developed countries, dementia awareness is growing rapidly and it is now an important agenda in healthcare policies. It is only through evidence-based research in India that we can hope to make dementia a national priority.
