World Alzheimer's Day Awarathon - Hyderabad

Red Cross - Nightingales Trust Dementia Care Centre, a joint project of Indian Red Cross Society, Telangana Chapter, and Nightingales Medical Trust observed World Alzheimer’s Day on 21st September at the Phoenix Arena through a series of activities - Geriatric Yoga, Cognitive Stimulation Activities and Rural Games - with a focus on Dementia Risk Reduction. Over 450 persons including students, IT professionals and Senior Citizens participated in the event.


After a public awareness program a awareness walk titled, Awarathon – A Walk for Dementia, was organised between Phoenix Arena and the Phoenix SEZ area. . The Honourable Governor of Telangana and AP, Shri E S L Narasimhan, was the Chief Guest and flagged off the Walk. Participants carried messages to create awareness about Dementia and fight stigma against it


The Hindi version of the book 'Handling Alzheimer's with Courage' by Wg Cdr DP Sabharwal was released on this occasion.


This program was significant as there is no cure for the disease. This event created more awareness on risk reduction activities and also helped spread information about the disease.
