A Job Fair for Senior Citizens


As part of our commitment to help more needy senior citizens, Nightingale Empowerment Foundation took the initiative to organize a “Jobs 60+ - Job Fair for Senior citizens” on Sat 10th October, from10 a.m. - 4 p.m. This Job Fair was conducted by the Foundation in collaboration with R.V. Institute of Management.

Dr. M. K. PandurangaSetty, Chairman, RV Group of Institutions inaugurated the Job Fair in the presence of Dr. T.V. Raju, Director of the RV Institute of Management, Mr. Mike Shah, the Chairman of Nightingale Empowerment Foundation, Dr. Radha S. Murthy and Mr. S. Premkumar Raja, Founder Trustees of Nightingales Medical Trust. In his address to the gathered senior citizens, Dr. M. K. PandurangaSetty expressed his happiness to be part of this initiative.

850 needy elders from various backgrounds - engineers, technicians, supervisors, administrators, teachers, accountants, professionals etc. participated in the fair. Elders were sent in batches for registration and all queries by the seniors were handled efficiently by volunteers.Efforts were made to register every elder participating in the fair on the job portal. Some of the elders had registered on the portal earlier. For such elders information was cross checked and they were guided to the next counter.

Names of Employers participating in the fair, types of vacancies available were displayed though banners in various locations of the institute premises.Trained volunteers discussed the job preferences with the seniors. Volunteers were placed near Employer booths to ensure smooth flow of elders attending interviews and to track the no. of elders attending interviews at each booth.

21 employers participated in the Job Fair. The employers included educational institutions, retail outlets, hotels, insurance companies, printing technology, medical supplier firms etc. The positions available were: Administration, Accounting, Security/Estate Managers, HR, Electrical/Mechanical Consultant, Business Development Managers, Cashier, Clerical, etc.

200 elders (approx.) were shortlisted by various employers.

CONCLUSION:

The job fair, provided a platform to connect the needy elders with the companies that are willing to avail their services.

Nightingale Empowerment Foundation aims to continue to explore what “empowerment” means to senior citizens and expand its services to empower senior citizens to live a life of dignity.
